Konstanz gauge: what does the reading in cm mean?
The Konstanz gauge measures the level of Lake Constance’s Obersee above the local gauge datum. For example, 250 cm means 2.50 m above that reference, not a water depth of 2.50 m. Wind can also change the water surface locally.
Seepegel’s annual comparison uses the official Romanshorn series and its seasonal FOEN reference. It puts the Obersee level in context, but is not a historical Konstanz series in centimetres. The Berlingen gauge is on the Untersee.
Current context
Largely stable over the last 24 hours.
What does this change mean?
“Largely stable” means the change from the comparison value about 24 hours earlier is less than 2 cm. The chart shows fluctuations in between.
We compare values at the same station at two points in time. If no suitably timed comparison value exists, we omit that statement. An unchanged value does not mean a seasonal normal or an all-clear. Changes below the displayed precision are also described as stable.
Past 30 days at a glance
HighMedian of available daily means: 250 cm · 30 days in the comparison window.
The current individual value is compared with available daily means from the last 30 complete days, using Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) for day boundaries. Min. and max. refer to daily means, not individual peaks. A day counts when values exist; gaps can affect its mean. For model series, this compares model values. “High” refers to this short window, not an official danger level or a seasonal normal.

Over the past 24 hours the value ranged between 250 cm and 251 cm and stayed largely stable.
Based on 97 available values from Nov 6, 2026, 2:00 PM to Nov 7, 2026, 2:00 PM (Swiss local time). The range describes stored values, not necessarily every peak that occurred.
Understanding readings at Konstanz
A level in centimetres is relative to the local gauge zero. It is not water depth and cannot be converted to elevation without a known datum. Compare changes at the same station, not absolute numbers from different gauges.
Check the time and source first, then the chart and unit. Missing or disrupted readings cannot support a reliable current assessment. A short comparison describes recent changes, not flood probability. Follow official warnings and local instructions for safety decisions.
