Understanding Kander

The Kander has entered Lake Thun since its diversion in 1714. Below its confluence with the Simme, the Kander already carries the Simme's water. Adding both readings without checking station locations can therefore double-count the same inflow.

This overview includes 1 monitoring station for water level and discharge. Not every station provides every measurement. Track changes at the same station, checking the timestamp, unit and source notes.

Discharge in m³/s is a volume per second, not the speed of the current. Station comparisons must account for location, measurement time and water travel time. A higher reading is neither automatically a flood warning nor an indication that the river is navigable.

Monitoring locations and what they measure

These sites describe our monitoring coverage, not the river's entire length or catchment. The list is alphabetical.
