Understanding Saane

Saane and Sarine name the same river. Fribourg canton also documents deliberate water releases at Rossens dam. A discharge peak therefore need not come solely from rain. Explaining a particular peak requires an operational or event notice; the measurement alone does not identify its cause.

This overview includes 2 monitoring stations for water level, discharge, and water temperature. Not every station provides every measurement. Track changes at the same station, checking the timestamp, unit and source notes.

Discharge in m³/s is a volume per second, not the speed of the current. Station comparisons must account for location, measurement time and water travel time. A higher reading is neither automatically a flood warning nor an indication that the river is navigable.

Monitoring locations and what they measure

These sites describe our monitoring coverage, not the river's entire length or catchment. The list is alphabetical.
