Landscape and water pathways

Lake Sils is at the upper end of the Upper Engadine lake chain. The Inn connects it to lower Lake Silvaplana. The cantonal report gives a mean surface elevation of 1,797 metres; this is a reference, not today's measurement.

02

What makes this lake distinctive

The high elevation makes comparisons within this chain particularly useful. Snow storage, melt and precipitation change water supply upstream. Simultaneous curves can reveal relationships but do not, on their own, establish a particular cause.

03

What the readings tell you

Reference data come from the cantonal 2014–2021 report. For today's conditions, check location, time and depth: a modelled temperature one metre below the surface describes neither the entire basin nor ice strength. Compare level changes at the same station.
